When traveling to and from Colorado have you ever flown into the Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden? If you haven’t, please put it on you to-do list. This past weekend I traveled back home to Seattle for my cousins wedding. Instead of driving to Denver, paying for gas, planning overnight accommodations and then flying out from Denver International Airport, I just flew out of YVRA with a connecting flight in Salt Lake City. I saved so much time, the airport was so convenient and it was so much less stressful. I now have first hand experience and will recommend YVRA to anyone who asks me. Whether you are in Steamboat, or it you are visiting it really is a great accommodation we have here is northwest Colorado.

To my pleasant surprise this morning I woke to look out my window and see snow. Not just a little flurry or flake of snow, I am talking dumping snow. I checked the weather forecast and they are only calling for 1 to 3 inches but in the past this usually means 8 to 10 inches. Steamboat is well on its way to making this already epic winter unbelievable!!
Check out the weather in Steamboat!
As we enjoy the last week of skiing before seasons end here in Steamboat Springs, it’s nice to remember that the fun doesn’t end. Summer is just around the corner is and with it there will be great events, wonderful weather and many traditions to upkeep. Part of what makes Steamboat Springs so original this that our town has been here for over a century. The roots in this valley are deep with history and Western appeal. In its April/May issue, American Cowboy Magazine named Steamboat Springs, Colorado one of the “20 Best Places to Live in the West.” Check out the full article here and see what they have to say about this great town in the west.
I often think of myself as a food connoisseur. Now maybe that is generous but I love food and I think I have a good sense of what is delicious. I went out to lunch yesterday at one of the local Mexican food restaurants and the food was awesome! In the last week I have been out for meals more often then usual but it refreshed my taste buds to what a great variety of food that Steamboat has to offer. In the last week I have experienced the delights of Mexican, Chinese, American and Swiss cuisine. The great thing is I am not even close to experiencing all that Steamboat has to offer, the week is still young and I have an apatite that is endless!
…Can’t trust that day. (Please excuse the Mama and Papa’s song reference)
But it is true, today is a wonderful sunny Monday. Check out the local forecast for what is in store. The season is almost over and this should be inspiration to get up there as much as you can before April 6th. Here’s hoping for a sunny Tuesday, Wednesday…
It happened, can you believe it? This season Steamboat has received more snow than any other year in history. As the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation stated, “With more than 37 feet of Champagne Powder® snow this winter, the Steamboat Ski Resort will finish the 2007/2008 season in record fashion, breaking its previous season snow record of 447.75 inches set in 1996/1997. Overnight, a storm blanketed the resort with 4 inches at mid-mountain and the summit resulting in a 74-inch base at mid-mountain and 97-inch base at the summit, moving the season snowfall total to 450 inches, 2.25 inches more than the previous record-breaking season. Currently, the top-three season snow totals for Steamboat include this year’s 450 (& counting); 447.75 in 1996/97 and 447.5 in 1983/84.”
Go out and play in this record breaking snow this weekend. We still have two weeks left!
