It’s that time of year; crisp cool mornings, birds chirping, and the sun rising over Rabbit Ears to the east. All promising for a beautiful spring day with bright blue skies and weather reaching into the upper 60’s. I dusted off my bike and a surge of excitement rushed through me. I’m eager to get on my bike to pedal when and wherever I can. In my mind, biking to work in the morning is a perfect way to start the day. The Yampa River Core Trail is the most convenient way to commute through town. It connects the east to the west end of town with 7 miles of well-maintained paved trail, winding along the Yampa River. A refreshing cool breeze and the river flowing at my side. I can hear birds nesting above, frogs chirping in the grassy fields, fish feeding under the water’s surface as i ride past. I couldn’t ask for a better commute into work or around town with the chorus of that famous song “Bicycle Race” by Queen ringing in my ears.
Please join me in pedaling through our bike-friendly community of Steamboat Springs. Bike rentals are available at Ski Haus, Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare, and Christy Sport businesses. Bike to work week is coming soon – June 21-25 with fun events going on daily. Dust off your bike or rent one because I promise you won’t regret the breathtaking views throughout the Yampa Valley.
